So I haven’t had the time to write in my tumblr (I’ve been surprisingly busy) but I wanted to share my first teaching experience at a MOLAA’s workshop! It was so much fun, even if I had to deal with less-than enthusiastic high school students haha… I met Carmen, who has been teaching art at MOLAA and a few other art centers in L.A., and I helped her set up a mono-print activity. Because the children had just toured the MEX/L.A. exhibition, we wanted to speak about some of the artists and have them produce posters using a mono-print technique. The inspiration came from Leonard Castellanos’ (Los Angeles, California, b. 1943) ”Rifa” piece which was created in 1972 and portrayed Mexican revolutionary, Emiliano Zapata and “reworked to express a unique Chicano perspective”. I wish I could have taken pictures, but since I can now create my own primitive mono-prints, I might try to come up with a few posters on my own!
